A Little Encouragement

It’s so easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to other writers. Sometimes, it feels like everyone else writes faster than you, writes better than you, markets better, has better sales, has better beta readers, and on and on. You might feel frustrated that you’re “behind” in an imagined race to be the most prolific and most successful.

I’m here to give you a friendly reminder that you get to set your own pace. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to setting goals and achieving them. There’s no magical schedule to follow for writing and marketing that will make you “A Success.” There’s just you on an amazing journey of self-discovery and self-improvement that you will completely miss if you fixate on comparing yourself to others.

This goes for so much more than just writing. Your journey – your character arc, if you will – is entirely unique to you. Trying to make it resemble someone else’s won’t work, and, even worse, it will diminish your strengths, your wins, and your enjoyment.

So don’t let yourself become an imitation of someone else. Be an extraordinary you.
